>> reporter: since september 7th, police say the man fondled women and girls on a path in the 6700 block of metropolitan center drive. as well as near the intersection of old key mill road in springfield boulevard. >> he's not shown any signs of stopping. that's the concern. you have someone out there doing something that is invasive, that is upsetting and concerning to women. >> reporter: on irving street where a teenager was fondled a week ago, the neighbors want this guy off of the street now. >> it's disgusted. i put a stop to it myself. and i heard other people say that. >> whenever i go out, i certainly look around to see if i can see the guy. the police ask me to do that, i'm going going to do that. >> reporter: the victim said the man said nothing during the encounters which, occurred in the morning, midday, and at night. we're talking about an area of two, three miles or so, one of those assaults took place over

behind springfield mall. another one on old key mill road. i am standing here where there have been two assaults, one on this past tuesday night. the police are out here in force and we have been seeing them on bicycles and undercover officers driving around in unmarked cars and trying to find the guy tonight. the discretion again at times, he's wearing a red bandana, baseball cap, glasses, a trimmed beard, 5'8" in his early 30s, will. >> a matter of time before he's caught. i hope so. thank you. a prince william county woman is facing child endangerment charges accused of running an unlicensed day care. the police found six children under the ages of two inside the monasses home of the woman. and they say three were unattended. they believe loop's 16-year-old daughter was often forced to work long hours to care for the children.

loop is facing four counts, three in connection with the unattended children and another for her own daughter being overworked. police made an arrest on a vicious attack on an elderly man with a baseball bat. officers arrested edwin gonzalez. he's being held without bond on charges of attempted first- degree murder and assault. a few weeks ago, police arrested a different man after the victim mistakenly identified him as the attacker. investigators ruled him out as a suspect later. tense moments in the district. firefighters had to rescue a construction worker left dangling after a scaffold gave way. fortunately, the worker wearing a harness there and firefighters got them down with a bucket ladder. the worker was not seriously hurt. a lot of excitement in d.c. as the nats head to the play- offs. fans get pumped up for the post season and police plan to pump up patrols for the games. during the appearance on wtop's ask the chief segment, chief

wouldn't we see it in his priorities? . in tonight's health alert, the government is warning doctors not to use products from the specialty pharmacy in massachusetts that made the steroids suspected in a deadly meningitis outbreak. five people died and dozens of others in six states are sick. they received steroids injections for back pain. chris has more on this. >> reporter: a deadly meningitis outbreak hitting five states, five people died and most cases reported in tennessee. >> some are improving and some are in critical condition. it's across the gadget. >> reporter: there are many types of meningitis. the general term for an

infection and inflammation involving the lining of the brain and central nervous system. the form of mental inkitis in the patients is not transmitted from person-to-person. the case is under investigation and have no relation to the more common forms of bacterial or viral meningitis. in this case, health officials believe a fungus is responsible. the victim's received steroids injections for back pain. health officials say the drugs suspected in the outbreak was made by a specialty pharmacy in massachusetts. last week, the company issued a recall of three lots of the steroids. >> there is not a lot of experience in treating this. we're getting the best experts together to try and formulate what people think might be a good course of action. >> reporter: chording to the centers for disease control and prevention, the other cases were reported in virginia, maryland, florida, and north carolina. more cases are expected to appear the coming days. >> the most common symptoms of meningitis include headache, neck stiffness with fever,

confusion or altered consciousness, vomiting and an inability to tolerate light or loud noises. sometimes non-specific symptoms are present like irritability and drowsiness, especially in small children and a rash may indicate a specific cause of meningitis. screening for type two diabetes doesn't appear to reduce the risk of death to the general population. researchers looked at the number of deaths over a 10 leave year period, among more than 20,000 people on the high risk and found the overall rate was no lower than the group that had no screening. and the benefits might be smaller than expected and they could be increased by the screening for cardiovascular risk factors along with diabetes. another new study shows people with heart disease may increase their risk of developing a heart rhythm problem. the more an older person with an existing heart problem drank, the more likely they were to develop an arrhythme at

next coming years. it's not clear if drinking alcohol is the problem. the alzheimer's foundation of america is helping families and caregivers with the disease. they held a workshop about alzheimer's and have their quilt to remember on display, here it is, illustrating like stories of real people battling the horrible disease. the quilt is made of 40 panels and spans the size of an olympic swimming pool. you know, more than a quarter million women of all ages will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and that is just in the u.s. they can be traumatic and overwhelming. who do you turn to for support? people who understand what you're going through as you're going through it. sure, there is fantastic support groups out there, but a new social network is launched designed to connect women in a new more specific way. it's called my breast cancer team and the founder mary ray is joining us here on the 5 live via skype. hi, mary. >> hi, how are you?

>> i'm good, thank you. this is more than women sharing experience, but a source for them, right? >> >> yes, it is. a lot of times, women will try to google like crazy when it comes to their diagnosis to get as much as they can and get information overload when they want to connect with people like them. >> women can customize their profile in a way like facebook. does it pair you up with similar people? >> folks on their own can do a search for themselves. they can search the stage of cancer, type of cancer, home and receptor status and age group. then, they get results of not just one woman like themselves but up to 50 women. >> reporter: quickly on the air as we're looking at the site, break it down for us. what can women expect to find? >> they can expect to find other women who are sharing their experiences day-to-day.

the true emotional ups and downs that happen when you have the condition and breast cancer and are going through treatment. when you have breast cancer and that is after treatment but you still have the self-image issues that you're working through or just visiting your doctor for the second time and in the year to make sure a recurrence is not happening again. as you come to the site, host your concerns, get assurance, get support and perspective from other women. >> we're talking about support, mary, if you're a son, daughter, husband, or partner of a woman with breast cancer. is my breast cancer team a site for me as well? >> currently, it's for women only living with breast cancer. what we hope is with the success of the the site, we can hopefully expand to other groups concerned about breast cancer as well. >> all right, mary ray, thank you for spending time with us this evening as we recognize

. american airlines said it's finished inspecting 48 planes and fixing loose seats on some of them. a spokesperson for the airline said that engineers were still figuring out how many planes needed repairs. the airline said all of the planes are back in service. in the last week, seats came loose on three flights that recently had seats removed and re-installed. two of the flights were forced to make emergency landings. the dodge bart is among four new vehicles in the united states to receive a top crash test rating by an influential safety group. it's the first model jointly engineered and designed by fee aught and the chrysler group. the dart joins the hyundai santa fe, the lexus 350 and the subaru xv cross track. the rating by the insurance institute means that each car performed well in the crash

test, evaluating front, side, and rear impacts as well as rollovers. montgomery county high school students are learning the dangers of drinking and driving ahead of the homecoming dances. that demonstration was held today. the entire student body rushed out of the class to observe blood-covered victims, emergency response and the arrest. students think the demonstration is a good reminder for other teenagers. >> when we see things like this all over the country, we read about it but having it up close and personal with us is horrific. >> the students acted also and a reminder, every 15 minutes, someone in the u.s. is injured or killed in a crash with someone driving drunk. coming up, the d.c. council
